Children of Other Lands Series

This series chronicles the memories of the authors about his or her homeland. There are 28 titles in the series. The first two titles were initially published as non series books. See Notes #1 and #2. The series was formally begun in 1906 with the first three titles.

Format 1- Cloth. Book appropriate cover picture. Dust jacket matches the book cover. Later books have photographic endpapers. Earlier books have plain endpapers. All the books originally had dust jackets. 7.25" x 5".

Series notes:
1. When I was a Boy in China by Yan Phou Lee was first published by D. Lothrop & Company in 1887. The 111 pages of text are identical to later D. Lothrop & Company, Lothrop Publishing Company and the Lothrop, Lee and Shepard versions. The pre Lothrop, Lee and Shepard books do not have the 15 photographic illustrations within the book. All the editions have the author's photograph as the frontispiece.

2. When I Was a Girl in Italy was first published in 1892 by D. Lothrop Company as Italian Child-Life.
The Italian Child-Life title was published later by Lothrop Publishing Company. The name of the book was changed to "When I was a Girl in Italy" when it joined the series in 1906.

3. All of these titles have a number of photographs illustrating the content. There are a few maps, etc.

4. On the copyright page, it shows a date of publication. This is most often inaccurate. The more accurate date can be determined by looking at the last title in the series list and noting when that volume was published.

D. Lothrop & Co. published the first edition in 1887. I have not seen this book.

Italian Child Life or Marietta’s Good Times
The first edition was published by D. Lothrop Company in 1892. The Lothrop Publishing Company format(s) have not been seen. In 1906 the title was changed to "When I was a Girl in Italy"
